Intolerable Acts of 1774
The intolerabel acts was the colonist name for the new laws. The purpose of this was to punish Boston for the tea party. The restrictions was that it closed the port of Boston and put more British soldiers in Boston. Closing Boston's port cut of its resources it depends on.
First Continental Congress of 1774
First Continental Congress
The first continental congress was held in Philadelphia and 12 colonies attended.The actions ended trade with Britain until the intolerable acts were repeled. Parliaments response was to send more soldiers and have stricter laws.
Massachusetts in 1775
Boston
The militia starts hiding ammunition in the country town of Massachusetts in 1775. Militias or Minutemen were mostly farmers training part time. There were spies on both sides of the British and Minutemen getting information. British General Gage was supposed to arrest patriot leaders and destroy the militia supplies.
April 18, 1775
Samuel Prescott
In April 18, 1775 the British Army starts marches drom Boston to Concord. Three riders warned that British troops are moving out of Boston to the west. Paul Revere an William Dawes ride two ways from Boston to Lexington to warn the Minutemen the British were coming. Samuel Prescott went from Lexington to Concord warning the people in Concord.
April 19, 1775
Lexington
In April 19, 1775 the first battle of the Revolutionary war started. In Lexington the colonist knew the British were coming and 70 colonist with guns stood up to 700 British soldiers. Nobody knew who shot the first shot but that shot caused some colonist to die even though the colonist had no intention of shooting the British soldiers. In Concord their was more colonist that hid until the British left and they attacked the British on the road back and was the first victory of the Militia.
Choosing Sides
Loyalist
There was no turning back once blood was shed and you chose a side. The sides were Loyalist, tories that were loyal to the King against the fighting, and there was the patriots, whigs which were considered rebels and fight for their rights.
